A ring box bearing the Mailings Direct monogram

We're proposing

A question for

A note

Hi James,

A lot can change in a short space of time. We wanted to reach out personally, not with a generic offer, but with something created specifically for Melon.

A thousand postcards before Christmas 2024, and nothing since. Looking back at it, one identical card sent to a thousand people was an odd thing to sell a brand whose entire point is that no two customers own the same goggle. Only two of the four below are postcards. Thirty seconds to see whether any of it is useful.

One run, one design, one message, sent into the busiest fortnight of the retail year. We still hold the artwork and the spec, so anything below is a short job to get moving.

Four ideas for Melon

You sell a product where no two orders are identical. Print can work the same way. The first one needs no postage, no list and no data at all, which is why we would do it first.

Printed insert, no postage

01Start here

Put something printed in every box

“You are already paying to send them a parcel.”

Every order that leaves you is a delivery you have already paid for. A printed card in the box costs pennies, needs no list, no data and no postage, and it reaches a customer at the single best moment there is, holding the thing they just bought. Spare lenses, straps and frames are the natural next sale.

  • A card in every outbound order, printed in bulk
  • The lens and strap options for what they just ordered
  • A code that only works on spares and extras
  • Re-printed each season rather than each campaign
Variable data postcard

02

Print the goggle they actually built

“A thousand cards, a thousand different goggles.”

Your customers configure their own frames, lenses and straps. We can print that configuration on their card, so it arrives showing their goggle rather than a stock photo of somebody else. That is the one thing a generic postcard could never do, and it is the whole reason your brand exists.

  • Built from your order data, one card per customer
  • Their model, their colourway, their name
  • Photochromic and low light lenses as the upgrade
  • Sent to lapsed buyers first, then the full list
Two drops a year

03

Sell lenses at the two moments people need them

“Clocks go back. Riding goes dark.”

Goggles are bought once and lenses are bought again and again. Late October when the evenings close in, and March when the bike season restarts, are the two weeks of the year a rider is actively thinking about what they can see through.

  • Late October for low light and snow
  • March for the start of the bike season
  • Sent only to owners of the frames those lenses fit
  • Booked as a pair so both slots are held
Envelope pack, keepsake

04

Make the limited editions land on a doormat

“Rob Warner, Brother Cycles, Band of Climbers.”

Limited runs are the one thing in your range with a genuine deadline, and an email about them is gone in four seconds. A small pack with the artwork, a sticker sheet and a number gets kept, stuck on a bike frame and photographed, which an email never does.

  • A printed card or mini poster for each collab drop
  • Stickers included, since you already sell them
  • Sent to previous limited edition buyers first
  • Timed a week before the drop goes live online

03  /  Our part of the proposal

We'll design your next
campaign, free of charge.

Book your next campaign with Mailings Direct and the artwork is on us. Starting a campaign takes time, and we'd like to make that first step easier.

What's included

  • A creative concept tailored to your objective
  • Professional campaign artwork
  • Design adapted to the agreed mailing format
  • Print-ready artwork prepared for production
  • Reasonable revisions to get it right

Shall we work together again?

James, you don't need a campaign planned out. Tell us which idea interests you and we'll come back with a price and a schedule.
