Summer Print Marketing Ideas for Your Business: everything you could be printing right now

Most businesses think about print in winter. Christmas cards, end-of-year mailers, January sale leaflets. Summer is somehow the season people decide to pause, sit back, and wait for things to pick up.

But here is what we see from where we are standing: summer is the busiest season for footfall, events, outdoor activity and impulse spending. People are out. They are moving. They are in towns, at festivals, at markets, at shows. And the businesses putting print in front of them are the ones that stay front of mind when the buying decision lands.

So here, as plainly as we can put it, is every print format worth investing in this summer and what each one actually does for a business.

Getting people through the door

Postcards with QR codes

The format we talk about most right now, because it genuinely works. A postcard with a small map showing where you are, a QR code that goes straight to your booking page or website, and a reason to visit. Placed at a local festival, market, or event entrance, it puts your business in the hands of people who are already out and already spending. We had a restaurant client place 500 postcards at a festival entrance. 200 people scanned the code. 40 booked a table that weekend. That is a better return than most paid ad campaigns, and the print cost less than a week of Facebook spend.Postcard printing is one of the fastest formats to turn around. If you have a summer event coming up in the next few weeks, there is still time to brief and print.

Flyers and folded leaflets

Sometimes the fastest, most direct print marketing option available. A flyer through doors on a new estate, a folded leaflet handed out on a busy high street, a DL drop at complementary businesses nearby. Folded leaflets give you more room for the story without the cost of a larger format. Creased and crisp, they hold their shape in the hand.

A-frames and outdoor signage

If you have premises, your frontage is your best-performing summer marketing channel and most businesses underuse it. An A-frame on the pavement tells people walking past that you are open, what you do, and why they should come in. Takes seconds to read. Costs less than most people assume.

Standing out at summer events and exhibitions

Summer exhibitions, trade shows, and outdoor events are where print marketing for businesses earns its keep. The question is not whether to have print at an event. It is whether your print is good enough to do the job.

Roller banners

The workhorse of any event stand. Standard, premium, double-sided, wide format. You can be set up and looking professional in under five minutes. If you are doing any summer shows, trade fairs, or exhibitions this season, a roller banner is the non-negotiable. Do not borrow one that does not represent you properly.

Exhibition pop-ups and stretch fabric displays

For anything bigger than a market stall or a single table. A stretch fabric display creates a full branded backdrop that photographs well and draws attention from across the room. LED fabric lightboxes go further still, particularly effective in darker venue spaces.

Feather flags and teardrop flags

The single most visible outdoor marker available for summer events. They move, they catch the eye, they communicate that something is happening here. For festivals and outdoor shows they are underused by most businesses and wildly effective when deployed well.

Café barriers

If you have an outdoor seating area, a branded café barrier turns it into advertising real estate. Every person who walks past sees your name and what you do. One of the most consistent pieces of passive summer marketing available to any hospitality or retail business.

Print marketing inside your venue or premises

Table talkers and tent cards

Already sitting in front of your customer while they wait, eat, or browse. The right table talker at the right moment closes the upsell, prompts the booking for next time, or shares the offer running this month. Inexpensive, and often the most underestimated print format in the room.

Strut cards

Self-supporting display cards that sit on a counter or shelf. Good for promotions, event announcements, or a quiet "did you know we also do this" moment without a member of staff needing to say a word.

Window clings and stickers

A summer promotion on the window costs almost nothing to produce and changes the entire frontage of a shop or office. Removable after the campaign. No commitment beyond the run.

Posters

Still the clearest way to communicate something at scale inside a space. Large format, waterproof for outdoor use, backlit for display cases. If your message needs to be seen from across a room, a poster does that job simply and cost-effectively.

The more considered print touchpoint

Booklets and catalogues

When someone wants to take something away and read it properly, this is the format. A stapled booklet or perfect-bound catalogue tells a longer story about your business, your products, or your services in a format people keep. Summer is the season for shows, open days, and events where visitors take a bag of things home. A well-made booklet makes it into that bag and onto the desk.

Presentation folders

If you are pitching, quoting, or meeting a prospect this summer, a good presentation folder is the difference between something that looks considered and something that gets lost in the pile. Matt or gloss laminated, glued or interlocking pocket styles. The physical impression it makes before anyone reads a word.

Business cards

Still one of the most reliable print formats in existence. A well-made business card on heavy stock with a quality finish communicates something about your business before a conversation has started. Summer events are where they get handed out. Make sure yours is worth handing over.

What to do next

If any of these print formats have been sitting on a “we should do that” list, summer is the right time to move.

We handle everything from brief to delivery. You send us the artwork, we take care of the print and the posting. Most formats are quicker to produce than people expect, but summer has lead times, and the closer you get to an event, the less room there is.

If you want to talk through what would work for your business this summer, give us a call or drop us a message this week. We will tell you honestly what fits, what the timelines look like, and what we would do if it were our campaign.

The team at Mailings Direct offered excellent support to me when I first started my physiotherapy clinic. The combination of online marketing with direct mail was very effective in increasing demand for bookings – and at a reasonable cost with payment plans available to ease concerns for a start up business. Would highly recommend.
